Volumetric & chargeable weight
Find out whether your shipment will be charged on its actual weight or its volume.
Shipment details
This calculation uses the figures you entered and is not a formal quotation. Dimensions must be measured after final packing, including the pallet.
Request a Quote →Carriers charge on whichever is greater: actual weight or volumetric weight. A light but bulky consignment effectively travels on its volume. This tool determines the chargeable weight for each mode.
The divisor for each mode
For air freight, the IATA rule treats 6,000 cubic centimetres as one kilogram. Express couriers generally apply a 5,000 divisor. For LCL sea freight the comparison is between weight in tonnes and volume in cubic metres, and the greater governs. For road groupage one cubic metre is commonly treated as 333 kg, although this varies between carriers.
How to measure
Dimensions must be taken after final packing and include the pallet, not the bare goods. This is the single most common cause of a gap between the first estimate and the final invoice.
Carry these figures into the enquiry form so we can price your actual lane.
