Pre-import permits: the checks that belong before payment

Meeting reviewing a routing and trade documents — illustrative image

A significant share of detained customs files trace back to requirements that were never checked before purchase.

The right order of work

Import requirements should be verified before order registration and before any payment to the supplier. Once the goods reach customs, the options for adjusting specifications or routing narrow sharply.

What gets checked

Admissibility and absence of prohibition, permits from the relevant authorities for that commodity, mandatory standards, health or quarantine requirements where applicable, and order registration conditions.

The practical effect

A few days of checking at the start can prevent weeks of detained cargo and storage charges at destination. It is the least expensive stage of the file and, at the same time, the most effective.
